Brief Answer:
Because Femoral nerve supplies the knee extensor muscles.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

The answer to this query is straightforward.Femoral nerve innervates the Quadriceps group of muscles which are the main knee extensors. So,if femoral nerve gets damaged, knee extension becomes weak and dominant muscle group ultimately becomes knee flexors.Hence, knee tends to flex or buckle.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread-rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
