Serotonin has many functions.
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.
There is a complex role of serotonin in body and also has role in both acute and chronic pain. A lack of serotonin, a neurotransmitter, in the brain is thought to be one of the mechanisms by which depression functions. Antidepressants such as Cymbalta not only treat pain, but also can treat depression by increasing serotonin in the brain. Unfortunately there is no reliable way to obtain serotonin that penetrates into the central nervous system other than by antidepressant medication.
