Brief Answer:
Following explanation. ...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

I am sorry for the situation your father is in. May God alleviate his sufferings.

Although mets have occupied 9/10 of his liver, it will depend on response of liver. If its function evaluated by liver function test showed normal/acceptable levels, it means that liver is not completely damaged.

Please bare in mind that liver is an extraordinary organ with special characteristics of continuous regeneration.
At what point it will keep regenerating, no doctor can predict.

All the best and God bless !

Ok .

At present his liver function tests seem normal which I was surprised .

But these can change right ?

Also he's had 1 round of chemo -oxyplatin and cea jumped from 65 to 78 in 3 weeks after first treatment . It was 65 three days before chemo started

Does this mean not working ?

Brief Answer:
Liver function can change(nobody can tell when&how);CEA not for follow up..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, you are right, liver function can change. However, no body can predict the time this is happening neither if it will be changed for worst or remain as good as now.

With regards to CEA level, it is not taken into account when it comes to follow up in colon cancer patients neither in evaluating the success of chemo. There are other factors to consider to evaluate the success of chemotherapy.

All the best!
