Question: Hi. I just got the results back from an ultrasound and a vaginal ultrasound. It shows a 7 cm fibroid and thickened endometrial lining. What are my options for treatment. I am 47.

Brief Answer:
can be observed, followed with serial pelvic exams

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

If there are no symptoms present currently especially related to blood loss then most fibroids or leiomyomas can be observed via serial pelvic exams. If treatment is indicated then myomectomy and embolization are two options that are conservative w.r.t the uterus. If fertility is completed then hysterectomy would be the better option in consultation with your doctor.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Are there any medicines that can help with the situation? I have read that possibly hormones can effect the growth of the fibroid and possibly the endometrial lining.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Yes GNRH analogues can reduce the size of fibroids by 70 % but they are used as part of surgical treatment as the fibroids recur and increase in size after stopping the hormones.

Thanks.
