My mom is 71. Just got blood work done and everything seems ok, however in the urine section the leukosyte esterate is 3+ with the WBC 20-40, appearance is CLOUDY, the occult blood shows TRACE, and the bacteria shows MODERATE. Please advise.
Thank you
Many Blessings

Brief Answer:
may be infection or asymptomatic bacteruria

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on these results, she may have an infection of some aspect of the urinary tract (this includes bladder, urethra, ureter, kidney).

In older persons , infections may not present with typical symptoms.

It is also possible that it may be asymptomatic (with no symptoms).Bacteria in the urine without symptoms is called asymptomatic bacteruria.

If she does have symptoms of urinary tract infection (passing urine frequently, discomfort on urination, urgency of urination, abdominal pain, fever), then she needs antibiotics.

If there are no symptoms, some persons recommend no treatment. It can sometimes clear up on its own (in some cases up to 76%) and use of antibiotics may cause side effects .

I hope this helps , feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you. Is it recommended to have a more detailed urine test done so that we can determine what is causing this imbalance?

Brief Answer:
yes, this is an option

Detailed Answer:
HI

Sorry about the delayed reply

Yes, urine can be sent for microscopy and culture where they may try to identify a particular bacteria.
If she is not asymptomatic however, her doctor may opt to monitor

Please feel free to ask any thing else
