Question: Question around Obstructive Sleep Apnea:
Background
For past few 3,4 years I have heaviness in head (Frontal, back, scalp, neck area) and fatigue & exhaustion. I always have the feeling that I need to rest, sleep more time. Usually I sleep around 11.00PM and wake up around 7AM; But, around 12.30AM - 1:00AM, I wake up without my knowledge, to pass urinal, After returning back to sleep, usually I don't get sleep for around half an hour, and in the morning around 4.30AM onward, I'll be in conscious state but doesnt get deep sleep. If there is little light, or noise, my sleep gets disturbed. 5 days a week in the morning b/w 7AM to 8AM I go for lawn tennis and thereafter for work. I have healthy diet and no smoking/drinking habits. Last year around July, I underwent FESS+Turbinoplasty and thereafter till date, I am able to breathe in and exhale freely but the heaviness of head, strain of neck muscles, eyes and general tiredness is not gone. I recently went to ENT doctor once again, she did nasal endoscopy and said all looks normal. Have got my eyes also checked, the power is also below 2 and I'm using glasses for that. Even the master health check report that I've undergone recently is all normal. I take steam inhalation when headache is severe, which gives temporary relief. On 17th Dec, I visited pulmonologist and he said that it could be OSA. He suggested modalert 200 mg once after breakfast and Giocon's Snoril capsule (Ayurvedic) twice daily. Please advise benefits of this medication. Also, is it safe to take both allopathy and ayurvedic medicines at same time. Sleep study report is attached, which I guess is normal. I'll be going to the pulmonologist for a followup visit shortly. Please let me know your diagnosis.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry for OSA.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the sleep study report you have attached.
This report is normal. So you are not having obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for sure
And hence I don't think you need modafanil (modalert).
This will not help you.
In my opinion, you are having problem in sleep maintainance. And for this better to consult psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions.
You may need tranquilizers or mild sedative drugs for better sleep in night.
Counselling also play important role in this.
So better to consult psychiatrist and discuss all these.
Please let me know
1. Have you ever consulted psychiatrist?
2. Do you have stressful life?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

No, I didn't consult psychiatrist.
I've a moderate stressful life, considering nature of my work.

If I were to use tranquilizers or mild sedative drugs, I'm just wondering it if could cause side effects in future, and affect my quality of work-life or probably could become dependent on those.

While I can visit psychiatrist, wondering how the 'actual' head ache / pain that I'm undergoing could be treated with these drugs. Will it not be just suppressing the effects rather than the intent to cure the cause of the pain.

Brief Answer:
Your belief is wrong.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I think you are having false belief for psychiatrist and their treatment.
Psychiatric treatment are not life long or habit forming. They will definitely help you if psychiatrist found some disease (stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances).
So don't afraid of psychiatrist and treatment.
And it will not suppress the symptoms, it will cure the symptoms. And don't think negative about Psychiatric treatment. Psychiatric counselling and supportive drugs are mainstay of treatment in sleep disturbances. This thing is scientifically proven.
So don't worry, consult psychiatrist and discuss your problem. You're will definitely improve.
Hope I have solved your query. If you are not having further queries, then please close the conversation and rate my answer.
