Question: I have recelty had an outbreak of dermititus. I wnet to the doctor and she gave me a topical steroid and I had a pretty severe allergic reaction to it. The doctor did a skin biopsy and it came back as an alergic reaction. I had blood work done and everything was normal except the absolute eosinophils was 1.0 and teh eosinophils were 10.7 and lymphocytes were 16.2. I was on a steroid shortly before teh blood work. I read about what the doctor called exfolative dermititus and was concerned becasue it said at times it was associated with cancer. Having had this severe allergic reaction, is it more commonthat thi was the cause or should I look further

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and i have noted your concern.
Underlying malignancy is an uncommon cause of exfoliative dermatitis. More common causes are drugs/ medications, dermatoses like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, lichen planus etc, immunobullous disorders like pemphigus and autoimmune connective tissue disorders like SLE, dermatomyositis etc.
Were you on some medication before onset of dermatitis? Did you have some prior underlying skin problem? How long since you have exfoliative dermatitis?

Regards
