Brief Answer:
Surgery needed if pain is not responding to medicines

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using this websites. I have studied your MRI and It is suggestive of inflammation in the shoulder with impingement. Decision of surgery can not be taken just on the basis of MRI report. I would like to know little detail about your illness.
1.Since when you are having shoulder pain?
2.Are you also having stiffness or difficulty in elevating your arm above head?
3. Do you also have Diabetes?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

The pain is due to a fall in the toilet due to slipping and hitting the shoulder against the bathtub in the process . The fall took place in end Nov 14, I was treated by an ortho. I was prescribed pain killers and physiotherapy, The condition improved. However on improvement I attended a yoga session . thereafter the pain has gradually increased. I am able to move my arm horizontally and up to a certain extent but move behind the back is not possible and very painful. I am a Principal and have a lot of righting work to do. i am able to do it but the pain persists. I am able to drive and carry out basic work with my arm except movement behind. Of late the pain is continuous even while sleeping and therefore decided to go for an MRI. Now that the MRI has given these results i am keen to know if non operative treatment and physiotherapy along with medicines can cure the ailment.
there is difficulty in elevating the arm above the head. But movement is possible up to a point above the horizontal,
No i am not diabetic

Brief Answer:
You need a small arthroscopy surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and you need arthroscopy surgery for your shoulder. In this surgery with the help of camera your doctor will increase space below bone and also repair your SLAP tear.
Only physiotherapy is not going to help you. Even some time Physio is so painful in such cases that you will not able to do that.
So I would recommend you to get it operated by a shoulder expert. You can do physiotherapy after surgery with better and faster result.
I hope this answer will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

How long will the surgery last and what would be the post operative recovery period for me to arrange leave and rejoin duty after the surgery. Please indicate the rough cost of the surgery as well.
will the surgery be a permanent relief because literatures available on the net suggest that it may not fool proof or give the desired results. Please clarify

Brief Answer:
Surgery has very good results

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Duration of surgery will be roughly three hours. It depends up on what is the extent of damage seen on camera, which may be different from MRI. After surgery you need to keep your shoulder in sling for three to four weeks. After that you will need physiotherapy to take care of movement.
Total recovery can take two months. Cost may be up to one lakh again depending on how much damage present during surgery.
Results are good. Pain relief is good and your shoulder movement will also improve. In my center at XXXXXXX most patients are happy.
Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
