Question: Hi Doctor,
2 Years ago, I had a right shoulder injury while throwing a cricket bowl. It has still not recovered yet. I have this slight niggling pain in my right shoulder. I can lift my arms sideways upto my eye level after which there is a slight pain but not too much. Problem happens when I move my right arm with sudden jerk or try to do any overhead movement. Slight pain is also noticed when I sleep on my right hand side. I thought this would gradually heal, but it is deteriorating year after year. I want to get back to playing cricket and recover from this fully. What should I do ? Is this a permanent damage ?
Can Physiotherapy heal this or should I try something else ?
I am attaching the MRI report.

Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query , MRI report and understand your concern. You are having supraspinatus tendinosis. Its treatment is rest and avoid movements of shoulder causing pain. Overheard abduction should be avoided. Analgesic are useful in pain relief. Vitamins B and C help in recovery. After pain relief range of movement and strengthening excercises ( physiotherapy) are done to regain the strength.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

I visited a Physiotherapist and he has suggested 8-10 sessions of Acoustic Shock Wave Therapy to dissolve the humeral Cyst and reduce the inflammation. Is it Ok to go for this treatment ?
Are there other beneficial alternatives also ?

Brief Answer:
Acoustic shock wave therapy reduce inflammation but inot cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
Acoustic shock wave therapy reduce inflammation but it is unlikely to reduce cyst. However acoustic shock wave is useful to reduce inflammation and pain. Others alternate is rest and analgesic.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Thanks Doctor. One last query.
What are the options to cure the Cyst ? Because if that remains untreated the problem is likely to reoccur.
I have had ample rest for the past 2 years but the problem is now worsening I feel.
Also, I asked my physio about taking analgesics and he was against it while taking a Shock Wave therapy. I am a little confused now.

Brief Answer:
As it is tiny and degenerative so probably it is not causing problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
According to MRI it is bony cyst likely to be degenerative(age related) in nature. It may not be cause of pain and not require treatment. It may heal with calcium and vitamin D supplements gradually. If you thought cyst as cause of problem then it may be treated surgically by bone grafting but as it is tiny I thought it is not causing problem. Only rest and analgesic can reduce inflammation( tendinosis) as these are anti-inflammatory also.
Everything else already discussed.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
