What Does This ECG Report Indicate?

Posted on Wed, 8 Jun 2016
Question: I visited the ER for heart palpitations and the did and ECG. The nurse mentioned that my QTC interval was borderline prolonged but the physician said not to worry about it since the QT interval was fine. I have had ECGs and a holter monitor before and it never came up. I would just like a second opinion.

Brief Answer:
Your ECG is just a normal variation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back on HCM!

I carefully reviewed your uploaded ECG and would explain that it is quite normal. I agree with your doctor on the fact that these are not concerning ECG findings, but just normal changes, due to elevated heart rate and a hyperactivity of sympathetic nervous system.

So relax! You have nothing to worry about!

Your palpitations are probably related to anxiety.

I would recommend just closing your eyes and taking a deep breath during these episodes, in order to help reduce your heart beat.

I would also recommend consulting a specialist of anxiety, in order to help you manage better your anxiety. Psychotherapy or antidepressants may be needed.

Meanwhile, I wouldadvise performing a lot of physical exercise and trying some yoga and recreational sports.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
