What Does The Transvaginal Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: I am a 75-year old woman. My transvaginal ultrasound showed a 6 cm uterine tumor (which the doctors think is benign and is calcified.) it also showed a simple cyst on my right ovary of 5.5cm. The gyn/oncologist wants me to undergo a robotic laparoscopic surgery. Is this necessary at my age? I'm afraid of the risks of surgery. Thank you,
doctor

Brief Answer:
may be observed closely

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

The uterine tumor is probably benign as your doctors also agree, so nothing to be done for that. The simple ovarian cyst is only 5.5 cm and if the CA 125 is normal then I would tend to observe that one also. Maybe by another tvs or CT scan after 6-8 weeks. Not because surgery has too many risks but probably it is not needed immediately.

May I know the reason behind this tvs ? Just as a routine or you had any symptoms? Did you have any previous scans?

Overall I don't think there's anything to worry.

Hope this helps. I will be available for further follow up.

Regards

The reason for the tVs was that I had some spotting. I never had any previous scans.
(I am overall very healthy with no major health issues.)

I forgot to mention that two weeks ago I did have an aborted hysteroscopy. Aborted due to a closed cervix.

Brief Answer:
Thanks, that helps

Detailed Answer:
Now I can understand the situation better. If the doctors are suspicious about the uterus, then they will have to take it out by surgery (as hysteroscopy is not feasible). But the ovarian simple cyst can be observed (if CA 125 is normal) in my opinion.

Regards.
