Brief Answer:
Subclinical hypothyroidism.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
Your wife has a rise in TSH level that fits into Subclinical hypothyroidism.
This is a condition which just requires monitoring and no treatment.
She would need to get her thyroid levels done after 3 months and so on and at any point her TSH values rises to more then 10 , treatment would be started.
However you should remember that this level is significant in case your wife concieves or is planning to conceive.
Subclinical hypothyroidism is treated during pregnancy.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, she needs to live normal life. No special precautions are warranted.
She should just avoid cabbage in diet as it is known to be goitrogenic.

There is no change needed in sex life.

She should go ahead with normal life and keep a check on TSH levels.

Get her thyroid profile done after 3 months and write back to me with the reports.

If you have any further query, please ask me.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX

Thanks very much for the clarification.

Kindly help me on some more points.

1.     My wife’s mother is also carrying thyroid for last 20 years. Does that enhances any chance that the TSH level would grow in future ? And, in general what is that chance that this current thyroid level will go on the higher side?

2.     My wife’s current weight is approx. 60 KG. Is this weight is OK keeping in mind that her height is approx. 5’3’’. What should be followed to keep this weight in check ?

3.     You have suggested that cabbage should be avoided in normal diet. Is there any other exclusion ? Also, please suggest whether any special diet / food or supplement is required to be taken.

I would be grateful to you for a detailed answer on all the above points.

Thanks & regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Just keep a check

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Family history of hypothyroidism is important. However, this can't determine that a person would get thyroid issues in future or not.
So, just keep a check.

Her weight is fine for her height. However, she should do exercises and take more of green vegetables and fruits in diet. No special diet plans are required.

No, cabbage should be avoided. There is a long list of food items which people claim should be avoided. However, the only important one is cabbage.
So, special supplements are required, if a person is taking proper diet, milk , fruits and green vegetables.

If you have any further query, please ask me.
