Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: My mother recently fallen on the road and subsequently after around 20 days she felt problem (pain) in fisting her left hand. X-Ray done-revealed no fracture and was suggested wax bathing.
No it is months over-no improvement.
I was advised to go to a Neurologist.
The Neurologist did NCV study and impression is : "Electrodiagonistic study revealed median nerve entrapment neuropathy across carpal tunnel".
And he suggested for a small surgery.
My question is that whether by doing that surgery can solve the problem in fisting in the hand?
Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
She will have pain relief after this surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Pain due to median nerve compression will be relieved. But I do not think that her stiffness will improve. I think she is having RSD. In this condition there is over active XXXXXXX of nervous system.
This stiffness will take time to improve. Best treatment is wax bath. She should also continue physiotherapy . Hor water fomentation and tablet pregabalin and methyl cobal should be taken daily.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions. Thanks
