What Does Spontaneous Bruising On The Torso Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 May 2017
Question: In the past several days I have had several 'spontanious' bruises. These start as a small slightly painful blue lumps which then spread to form a bruise. The lump remains even when the bruise goes away. The first one was about 3 weeks ago, but I've had three in the past 2 days. Is this cause for alarm? I have not had any trauma to bring these on.

Brief Answer:
The symptoms suggest vessel wall disorder, require further investigations.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Development of spontaneous bruise which latter develops into lump is suggestive of hematoma.
At the age of 82, I do not suspect any coagulation disorder since coagulation disorders usually present early in life.

I suspect vessel wall disorder which is probably degenerative in nature.

However, you need to get few investigations to know the exact cause of bruising and lump formation.

These investigations include platelet count, peripheral blood smear examination, PT, aPTT and platelet function tests.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks and take care
