What Does Redness And Tenderness In Pubic Area Indicate?

Question: Several days ago I noticed a redness and tenderness on my upper pubic mound. It became irritated and itchy, waking me up in the night from these sensations. The redness now has small parts that look like contained puss but the irritation isn't as bad. Still I'm unsure what this is caused by, what I should do to treat it, if this is "serious", etc. I am married, have only one sexual partner and am sexually mostly not too active overall so I'm very confident this is not an STD though I've no idea what it might be instead. Something similar occurred previously, possibly it's an allergic reaction to the fabric of my undergarments or something?
