What Does Persistent Headaches In A Child Suggest?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: my daughter is 12 years old, has complained of headaches for 2+ months now, also sciatica that now goes into her legs, very lethargic. Had an MRI of her brain which was normal, but showed a sinus infection in her upper sinus. Treated for amoxicillin, then stronger antibiotic + prednisone (3 days only). Lots of ibuprofen, but still not much better. Have seen her pediatrician, a D.O., an ENT and trying to get into a pediatric neurologist. Has been tested for mono and tested negative. Sciatica appears to be worse than headaches now. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
MRI of the spine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, sciatica should be evaluated further with a spinal column and cord MRI.

An evaluation by a Pediatric Neurologist is the right step to follow.

Lethargy with headaches and sciatica may indicate viral infection, so blood tests about any viral infection such herpes zoster etc. should be considered too.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
