Brief Answer:
14.9 is mild liver enlargment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

I have read your query and understand the concern about your nephew.

14.9 cm size of liver on ultrasound suggests mildly enlarged liver (hepatomegaly).

As he is just recovered from jaundice then it is likely due to viral hepatitis or may be because of mild deposition of fat within liver cells (mild fatty liver). His ultrasound report will be helpful for me to understand better.

Also, there is no need to worry much since you said his reports are normal (considering his liver function tests like serum billirubin and SGPT,SGOT)

This mildly enlarged liver or fatty liver often get reverse with treatment of underlying cause. So, I would suggest him to continue the treatment prescribed by his doctor.

Ask him to avoid saturated fat and to go for brisk walk regularly if he is feeling better.

Should take lot of fruits and vegetables in the diet and avoid alcohol if he takes.

His doctor must have prescribed liver supplements like Ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg (brand name: Udilive 300mg) 2 or 3 times daily for couple of weeks which helps in regeneration of liver cells.

And if not,he can get the prescription from his treating doctor.

Liv-52 DS tablets or syrup would also be helpful.

We may expect that his liver size will come back to normal within 2 to 3 weeks,so there is no need to worry much.
