What Does My Spirometry Test Report Indicate?

Question: I have been struggling with shortness of breath for a month now.
Background:
6 weeks ago i had breast augmentation, under the muscle, 2 hour procedure. 2 weeks after the surgery, i developed extreme shortness of breath where i couldn't complete a sentence without gasping for air. And actually inhaling deep breaths was near impossible.

I went to the ER and all test came negative, even 02 level was 100% except for CT. Please see attached.
I went home with spirometry exercise recommendation only.

But since I checked out of the ER then, I started using the spirometer and light walking for the next two weeks and the shortness of breath really really improved but it never really went away. I say I am stuck at 60 %. I am still using the spirometer and it's been a month since I left the ER.

So technically I don't get out of breath anymore, but I have difficulty inhaling deep breaths as easily or as I normally should. So for every 3-4 normal breathing, I have to struggle for deep satisfying breath. I do get it, but it's a struggle and sometimes I noticed leaning forward or bending over forward helps me breathe better.
Once I fall asleep, I have no problem breathing or finding the need to wake up for a breath.
I started exercising brisk walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes 3 days ago and I breathe really well and all the deep breathing is great too. But the minute I stop, 15 minutes later the difficulty getting the deep breaths comes back and stays

Questions:
1. Are such small atelectasis symptomatic to cause such severe shortness of breath? Where they accidental findings?
2. Why did i feel better after spirometer exercise if they are asymptomatic?
3. If they are not the cause, what can it be as i am not 100% better now.
4. Now i am not out of breath, i just struggle getting deep satisfying breath, so do you think the implants might be compressing or putting pressure on my ribcage/diaphragm?
5.What other tests should i take?

Brief Answer:
No need to worry for these atelectesis.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.

Answer to your 1st question.

No, normally such small atelectesis are just accidental findings and don't cause breathlessness.

Answer to your 2nd and 3rd question.

You might be having restrictive lung disease due to implants (implants may cause restriction in lung expansion). So by spirometer when you're do deep breathing exercise, you will actually feel better. This kind of restriction can also cause minor (small) atelectesis.

Answer to your 4th question.

Implants actually don't press the lungs because rib cage is lying between lungs and implants. But implants may restrict the expansion of rib cage and lungs.

Answer to your 5th question.

Get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).

Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hi Dr. is the same person that posted this question before and I was hoping to get a second opinion but I'm glad you answered as well.

So I have a question, if I am having a respiratory disease because of the implant pressure, how is it treated or resolved? Do I need to remove the implant?

And also Why do I find relief when I use the Spiometer? It seems that my lungs are expanding just as much when I try to take a deep breath with or without the Spirometer, so even though the expansion is the same why do I get a deeper breath satisfaction or success with the Spirometer?

Brief Answer:
Chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercises are done

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
If at all you are having restrictive lung disease in PFT study, treatment will be chest physiotherapy and deep breathing exercises.
Chest physiotherapy is simple and easy thing.
You can definitely do by your own after few sessions of physiotherapy.
But all these should be done only after having restrictive lung disease on PFT.
If your PFT is normal then no need to worry much. Get done repeat CT after 3 months (from 1st CT) for the evaluation of atelectesis.
No need to remove implants. Don't even think of this.
And your better feeling with spirometer is just a subjective thing. I don't think this is significant.
So don't think too much. First get done PFT. If this is normal then relax and chill.
I was going through our previous conversation and you wrote that you started to hate your implants.
Is it true? Why?
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

All sounds like good advice, thank you. Well, since I had the plants, all I have gained is problems. Especially the breathing issue is very prominent and is affecting my every day life since it's an all day phenomenon. I am a very health conciouse person and this "illness" is taking a toll on me. I have tried relaxing but it's difficult when you can't get the breath you need every 15 seconds of every day.

I am thinking I made a mistake thus implant might give me more Health issues in the future as well.

Don't think like this. Your implants are very successful if we see cosmetic results. Your shape is more than excellent. So think positive about them.
For your breathing difficulty, I think first consult pulmonologist and get done PFT.
I was going through the reports, you had bandage below your breasts. Do you apply it daily?
And was that photo recent one? Or just after implants?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further.

Brief Answer:
No need to regret.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
No need to regret at all.
Your procedure is very successful. No doubt about it. Are you still applying bandages?
My concern is because if bandages applied too tightly then it can cause restriction for lung expansion.
Do you have any problems at stich line?
Can you send me recent picture?
I am asking all these, because I don't think your implants are causing you trouble. I just want to make you positive for your implants so that you don't hate them and start loving them back.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you very much that is very considerate of you the bandages is just a one time application I did when I was trying on clothes at the mall and I didn't want it to be exposed to any contaminants was but I don't wear any and ages just a supportive bra. Oh by the way I just picked up my x-ray results today and her report says everything is normal and healthy.

So I called out the radiologist and I explained to him the CT scan scan results I had a month ago , So I asked him what an x-ray be able to pick up that small Atelectasis and he said the CT is much more sensitive and you could pick up some small details and such but on the x-ray might or might not pick it up so they might be some Reminenc and he said the CT is much more sensitive and you could pick up some small details and such but on the x-ray in might or might not pick it up so they might be some Remaining in that he's not sure but then he concluded to say from what we can see on the x-ray everything is normal.

What do you think?

Oh yes we did! I forgot, thank you

Brief Answer:
No role in comparing chest x ray with CT scan.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
I have already discussed this with you.
CT scan gives excellent details of lung parenchyma. It is able to pick minute details like very small atelectesis etc.
Chest x ray is just a screening test. It does not show very minute details.
So there is no point or gain in comparing chest x ray with CT thorax.
You have to compare chest x ray with chest x ray or CT thorax with CT thorax.
Don't compare chest x ray with CT thorax. You will not get anything.
I have already discussed in depth with you in our previous conversations.
So radiologist is right.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Don't worry, you will be alright.

I think, you are just over worried with your implants. They look fantastic, believe me. Don't think too much, you will surely be alright.
Consult pulmonologist and get done PFT.
You will mostly get normal report.
And thanks a lot for nice words. It's always encouraging for doctors to hear positive feedback from patients.
Do let me know your progress. I would love to hear back from you.
