Brief Answer:
Nerve conduction studies/Neurological examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist, here to answer your query.

Diabetics are usually prone to nerve damage(neuropathy).Although, its unlikely that drawing of blood can cause nerve damage, still the symptoms are indicative of nerve involvement.
I suggest that a Nerve conduction studies may help diagnose the condition.
Neurological physical examination can be of further help in this regard.

Hope that helps.I shall be glad to have you in follow-up with further queries.

I have only had Diabetes for 3 months so could I really have nerve damage already from that - actually my A1C in January was 9.9 and is already down to 5.7 with diet and some meds. My doctor said I had to wait 4 week for the neurology test to work is that true or can it be done sooner?

Brief Answer:
It can be done and repeated again in future.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow-up with details.

Nerve conduction studies can be done at present to see if nerves are normal. It can be repeated again after several weeks to see the change. This is straightforward-if nerves already damaged, the test will show even now.

I suggest that its better to go for the test.

Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
