Brief Answer:
investigation is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

the ALT is somewhat elevated, the rest of the tests are probably OK. I'm saying 'probably' because there are different normal ranges between labs. In cases like yours I usually advise my patients to do an ultrasound scan of the liver and gallbladder, to investigate for potential anatomic abnormalities like the fatty liver for example. The fatty liver is a relatively common condition that is usually caused by diabetes mellitus, significant alcohol consumption or obesity (even being overweight may cause fatty liver).

Besides the ultrasound scan, blood tests can be ordered which may include:
- antibody/antigen tests for infectious hepatitis (A,B,C, etc)
- antibodies against Epstein-Barr virus
- antinuclear antibodies (for autoimmune hepatitis).

The test selection depends largely on the patient history (transfusions, intravenous drug abuse, sexual history, recent illnesses, etc). You should not forget that drugs and various supplements may increase the liver enzymes, so check every drug or supplement that you may use, even if you don't use them every day.

So your best next step is to contact your doctor for further investigation of this finding by assessing your medical history first and ordering appropriate tests later.

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Brief Answer:
it's the same

Detailed Answer:
As I've told you, different labs may give different normal ranges. In other labs theses numbers will fall within the normal ranges but after all it makes no difference. It is a mild elevation of the liver enzymes that should be investigated the way I proposed: an anatomical assessment with the ultrasound scan and antibody testing.

Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
I've checked your results...

Detailed Answer:
You're welcome. I've checked your results and my opinion is still the same. The rest of the tests are OK too and do not suggest chronic liver disease (normal albumin/globulins, normal platelets, white blood cell cound, hematocrit).

Best Regards!
