What Does My Blood Result Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: I have hypothyroidism for many years now (more than 15). I am on 137mcg synthroid since diagonised earlier with hypothyroidism. Initial TSH levels were very very high greater than 90.

Blood results in Dec 2014 are

Free T3 Serum 2.46
Free T4 Serum 1.22
T3 (Tri-iodothyroxine) Serum 91.0
T4 (Thyroxine) Serum 7.28
TSH 4.156
TPO 278.4
ATG 9.75

Very concerned on TPO/ATG high numbers. Is it normal for hypothyroid patients.

Secondly Eosinophils is 10 in differential count and 700 in absolute counts
Any help will be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
High Anti TPO = Auto immune Hypothyroidism

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concerns. Your TSH has nicely come down to 4.156 from initial high values. However, most endocrinologists would like to keep TSH between 2.5 to 3. This mens that you may have to use 137 mcg levothyroxine 5 days a week and 150 mcg 2 days a week.

The high Anti TPO and anti TG means that you have auto immune hypothyroidism ( hashimotos) and you may need levothyroxine life long. Nothing to wory about the antibody levels. They are produced by immune system against thyriid cells. Auto immune hypothyroidism is the most common cause of hypothyroidism and majority of patients will have elevated antibody levels. Infact i see Anti TPO value of 500 to 1000 in some patients.

High easinophil count means that either you have an allergic condition or you have some parasite infesttation. Some drugs also can increase Easioophil count.

Binu
