What Does My X-ray Report Indicate?

Question: Hello Doctor,
My uncle is suffering from severe knee pain from the past 3 years. He visited a doctor in Bhimavaram West XXXXXXX dist. Andhrapradesh. After taking an X-Ray, he advised to under go knee joint replacement operation for both the knees. Attached is the X-Ray report. Could you please let me know in what stage the knees are( I heard that there are 4 stages). Is it compulsory to go for operation?

Yes, your father does have very arthritic knees Grade 4 Osteoarthritis. Usually knee replacement is done in this kind of case.

But I would like to know if you're father can walk normally and if he can bend the knee fully.

Usually of the knee function is intact we can treat with medication, Physiotherapy.

If he can't bend the knee much or any abnormal knee shape or deformity, then surgery is required.
