What Does My CT Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Jan 2017
Question: I've been having stomach pains...admitted for high blood counts...CT scan revealed splenic aneurysm..I had a mini-stroke 3 days later, now on a blood thinner, cholesterol reducer and 3 weeks ago hydroxyurea for high platelet count. Nobody knows what it is..blood disorder, spleen, cancer?
What's causing the blood numbers to be out of whack?
Could the spleen have caused the stroke? I have ALWAYS had LOW cholesterol.

Brief Answer:
as explained in details.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/77 - known patient of extensive colonic diverticulitis - with colo-vesical fistula - resolved peri-sigmoid abscess - stomach pains - admitted for high blood counts - CT splenic aneurysm - mini-stroke 3 days later - on blood thinner, cholesterol reducer, hydroxyurea for high platelet count - nobody knows what is it - blood disorder, spleen or cancer - have questions:
What's causing the blood numbers to be out of whack?
> If white blood cells increase, the commonest cause is obviously diverticulitis as is found to have many diverticulosis.
Spleen has the function of sequestration of aging red blood cells, stores of white cells and platelets. It is possible that the body's mechanisms have been producing more to compensate or in response to altered spleen functions due to aneurysms.

Could the spleen have caused the stroke?
> Such a thing is not known to occur as the blood from the spleen is filtered through the liver before going into the general circulation.
The probable cause can be increased packed cell volume, may be added on by relative dehydration that can cause clogging of blood vessels supplying the brain and cause stroke.
- What was the report of CT scan or MRI of the brain?
- What were/are the symptoms?
- Any other information, reports? Please post- s the one you have posted dates back to 09/06/15

I have ALWAYS had LOW cholesterol.
> This is always debatable why would medicines be started for cholesterol reducer if the cholesterol is low.
