What Does Low Pulse Rate In An ECG Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Jun 2017
Question: I recently had an ECG, and it showed extra

heart beats, but my pulse is still quite low. Do you have any idea what would cause this reading in an ECG? I am 57, and up until now, they have all been normal. Cholesterol levels are fine. I do have Addison's disease. Thank you.

I would recommend performing some tests:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that extra heart beats are usually related to the physical or emotional stress.

They occur normally in healthy individuals.

But, considering your age and the fact that your suffer form Addison's disease, I would recommend performing some tests to exclude some other possible causes:

- a cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart function and structure
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends for a prolonged time and exclude possible cardiac arrhythmia
- complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalance (they are commonly altered in Addison's disease)
- cortisol plasma levels
- thyroid hormone levels for possible dysfunction.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing good health,

Dr. Iliri
