default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I have seen blood after wiping off and on for the past several weeks. I have had hemmroids in the past and if I sit for a long period of time my rectal has a little ache. I have had 3 colonoscopies. The last one was about 4 years ago and was told I would not need another one for 10 years. I also had a digital rectal exam 10 months ago. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Hmorrhoids like cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

There are many different causes for bleeding per rectum. Some of the common causes are hemorrhoids, anal fissure, colitis, diverticulosis and malignancy.

Since last colonoscopy done 4 years ago did not show anything either malignant or premalignant, malignancy is less likely.

Your previous examination has showed hemorrhoids. So this could be the likely cause for the bleeding per rectum.

A repeat digital rectal examination, an anoproctoscopy/sigmoidoscopy may be done.

Take high fiber diet and drink enough fluids to ease your bowel movement which will help if the hemorrhoids are small.

I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
