Posted on Wed, 22 Feb 2017
Question: I have got a swollen vein on my penis. After reading some of the online discussions I'm not sure if I should give it a couple of weeks before seeing a doctor or I should not wait. Please advice. What kind of a doctor would treat this condition?

Brief Answer:
Prominent veins are normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, I can understand your concern.
Prominent veins over shaft of the penis are a normal situation.
You don't need to worry about it, as it's normal and will not disappear on it's own.
It's also a part of the erectile mechanism. It'll not affect your sexual health in any way.
Hope your doubts are cleared.
Wish you well.

Hello Doctor, I mean when I pull the foreskin back when it's flaccid I see a distinct vein that has swollen abnormally since last few days.

Brief Answer:
It'll be better to send a photo of this swollen vein.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

If you're referring to a distinct vein,it would be best to send a photo,so that i can have a direct look at it and help in advising you.
Also mention for how many days, you've noticed this vein.
Is there pain on retracting the foreskin ?

Maintain good penile hygiene.
Wish you well.

Sure doctor. Attached is an image. It has been like this since 6 days. No pain. Yes, I do maintain it pretty well. I've attached one more picture showing a kind of lump on the lower skin like a pimple but is painless and doesn't grow or reduces. It has been like this since a few years. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Pictures are clear.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Now the pictures are seen clearly.
In fact, the pictures make it simple to advise you.

The vein you've is an absolutely normal structure, seen in many men.
As written earlier,it doesn't affect sexual health or infertility.

The other photograph shows a cyst, which's also a normal observation in many men.
Nothing to worry about. If at all there's any change in size or pain, see a doctor.
Hope your doubts are cleared.

Hello Doctor, Ok for cyst. Regarding the vein, it just got swollen a week back suddenly before which it was completely normal and not even half of what it is. In fact, I just started felling a bit of pain today when it is pressed.

Brief Answer:
The swollen veins aren't a cause of concern.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

The appearance of the veins is normal.
Recent increase in size is not a matter of concern.

As long as you're able to masturbate or have sex normally, just relax.
Minimal pain isn't a cause for concern.

Wish you well.
