default
Posted on Fri, 1 May 2015
Question: My blood pressure is 109/74 and heart rate is 92. Two weeks ago my blood pressure was 190/125. Any ideas what might be going on? I am a 60 year old woman in really good health.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely scenario

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

It is unlikely for the blood pressure to drop to such low levels without any anti hypertensive. Few occasions where this can happen are

1. Over correction with anti hypertensive drugs
2. Anxiety which might have initially caused high blood pressure
3. Few medications like pain killers, anti histaminincs and thyroid tablets can cause high blood pressure
4. Heart attack can cause sudden drop in blood pressure
5. Faulty machine can lead to false reading

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Well all i can say is the readings are accurate as they were taken by a doctor treating me for a skin condition. Since then a paramedic friend has been keeping tabs on me and it has been up and down. Today us the lowest.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back

The ideal test would be is to get a 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring done. Please ask your paramedic friend if he can arrange for one. It will tell you the exact bp monitoring through out the day
