What Does A Red Patch Of Skin Above The Waist Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 Jun 2017
Question: Three days ago I had a patch of skin on my right side right above my waist (Love handle area) that became quite itchy and prickly, almost felt like poison ivy or a bad sunburn but there was no visible signs, no rash nothing. It slowly subsided and this morning that area is almost completely numb, along with part of my right arm and upper leg. I can touch or scratch the area and not feel it at all.

Brief Answer:
I will say monitor this again for at least a week!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. I have reviewed this information fully and it doesn’t really narrow down to any specific disease condition.

I'm more of the thinking that this might be a transient observation of no pathological significance and does not represent an ongoing disease process.

However, I will suggest that we monitor only. If this persists, then we will need to investigate. A common cause of sensory loss in multiple areas that are not linked to each other by a common nerve could be suggestive of multiple sclerosis. However, this needs to happen over much time before we can raise this as a possibility and you haven’t reported similar episodes over time.

I hope this guides and sheds more light on this. Keep me updated how it progresses over the next few days.

I wish you well and await your updates.
Kind regards
