What Does A Lump Between Neck And Shoulder Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Sep 2014
Question: I have had a lump at the base of left side of my neck where it meets the shoulder, for over 6 weeks. It is about the size of an egg and is rubber feeling. Below my clavicle on same side, I have a swollen area and the area to the left of the lump all the way to shoulder is swollen. I now have two swollen areas just above both wrists on the inside, radius side, of both my arms. I also now have a lump in my right armpit.
Ive had an ultrasound and ct scan that shows enlarged supraclavicular lymphnodes, although they are enlarged, they are condiered small in size.
CBS was all normal, I also had thyroid blood test, normal, lipid panel, normal, comp metabolic panel, normal
My primary doctor referred me to a hematologist, which I am seeing tomorrow???

Brief Answer:
Fine needle aspiration cytology necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Going through the clinical history, my opinion is as follows:

1. Mutliple lymphnodes enlargement, with rubbery feeling and without pain, possibility of a lymphoma needs to be thought of. Short history of 6 weeks, is against the diagnosis. It could be infectious cause based on short history. However, further tests are necessary.

2. Fine needle aspiration biopsy of lymphnode is necessary. Further tests like Immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry might be necessary.

As you not mentioned any specific query, i could answer as above.

Any further queries, happy to help again.

Brief Answer:
Possibly mild Thalassemia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for replying.
Thalassemia, if present could be heterozygous type as the CBS is normal.

However, do meet the hematologist and get FNAC done for further evaluation.

Any further queries, happy to help again.
