What Does A High Hormonal Level During Pregnancy Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 26 Apr 2014
Question: I am 14 weeks pregnant. My doctor told me I have a high hormone level (I cannot remember which hormone) - she has adviced me to take baby aspirin everyday this is to help the placenta and blood flow. Apparently the reason I need this is because the hormone level that is slightly high has shown that it might affect the growth of my baby. So I will now be scanned more than usual to make sure everything is growing as it should. I am just worried. What if my baby doesn't grow correctly? Is there anything else I can do? Why is this hormone high?

Brief Answer: Normal physiology. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. The changes in the hormonal levels in the body is a normal finding in the pregnancy. There are many hormones that are increased during the pregnancy that help the baby and placenta to grow normally. Baby aspirin is given to increase the blood circulation of the placenta so that baby can grow properly. The growth of the baby is monitored with serial ultrasound scans. In case there is any discrepancy in the growth your doctor will manage accordingly. Please do not worry. Do concentrate on having a healthy diet and adequate rest for a healthy baby. Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Rakhi Tayal.
