Brief Answer:
Could be something very simple like stress;but serious factors present also

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. There have been many such reports of a bursting sensation, popping feeling or noise, etc; in the head in individuals belonging to varying age groups. But please note, there are different possible causes for such a presentation and I cannot pin-point on the exact cause in your case without further investigations.

I would like to list all the possible causes and would like you to report to your doctor just to make sure you are alright, as I do not wish for you to neglect any symptom and face any consequences. They are:

+Stress/anxiety: Most individuals who have reported this symptom (especially the younger ones) have been in stressful environments when this popping sound occurred, and after a thorough evaluation it was indeed attributed to stress or anxiety

+Migraine headaches: These are more common in women, and with accompanying symptoms of dizziness, photosensitivity, not being able to tolerate loud noises, headache lasting hours, and at times even an aura (feeling similar to that of being under the influence). This will require a neurologist consultation as migraines can be caused by some neurological abnormalities which need to be ruled out by a neurologist

+ENT-associated: Conditions like labyrinthitis (inner ear abnormality) can also present with popping sounds that seem to be from around the head

+Conditions that are not in fact associated with the head: Like sinusitis, can also cause such a presentation but are in fact not associated with the head

+Serious conditions: Stroke and bursted aneurysms are serious conditions that require immediate medical management

In conclusion ma'am, I would urge you to visit a doctor at the earliest and also get an MRI of your brain conducted at the first chance you get. It is only so we can rule out all the serious abnormalities and then gradually narrow down to the cause and treat it to avoid all such occurrences.

A huge part of the better to be safe than sorry comes from pre-emptive planning, precaution and early investigations and management of any troublesome symptoms. I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
