Brief Answer:
Nothing worrisome,increase water intake...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern.

1. The presence of RBC's is showing that there is a source of bleeding in the urinary tract. This was automatically read by the machine.

The microscopical examination is showing slightly elevated erythrocytes, which to my opinion, might be related to any little stones, but no crystal was detected in the urine.

Possible causes include:
- stones/sludge
- infection
- trauma

2. The presence of leucocyte esterase is indicating infection. As it was reported as trace, it's showing slight infection. This is read by the machine. While, the microscopic examination did find leucocytes within normal range; so no infection.

3. I still think this is nothing worrisome. Try to increase water intake and avoid salty foods. An abdominal ultrasound is advised to see the changes in the urinary tract (possible stones/sludge).

Urine alkalinizers are advised to regulate urine pH.

Hope it was of help!

Having an ultrasound tomorrow along with additional blood work. Reason that this all came up was that I have had some pain on my right side and it goes to my back. I had my gallbladder out in 2010; but have some of the same symptoms that I had with my gallbladder of nausea and of course the pain in my side and back. My Father died of gallbladder cancer and this area makes me very nervous.

Brief Answer:
Not the case to think the worst, wait for examinations results first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

The wisest thing to do is to wait for the ultrasound and additional blood work reports to be in. Cancer is the last thing that goes into my mind.

The pain you are reporting on your right side that goes to your back associated with nausea to my opinion, seems to be related to your urinary tract; kidneys or ovaries.
That's why I asked to run abdominal ultrasound, during which all these organs will be evaluated and see where the problem is.

For the moment, I advise to:
- relax and get prepared for tomorrow's examinations
- do not think the worst as it is not your case
- drink plenty of water

Looking forward to have your reports in!

Brief Answer:
Slight decrease in total protein/slight increase in anion gap=your symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

Thank you for following up and providing the results of your blood work (metabolic panel).

I have gone through it and noted that most of the parameters were within normal range.

2. The total protein level was noted low; while the anion gap was resulted high. The high anion gap is reflecting your symptoms of being nauseated which might have limited the intake of foods during this time. However, it is not worrisome to my opinion.

With regards to low protein level, it might be also related to poor mal-digestion due to the pain on your right side and nausea.

As the albumin level and liver enzymes were within normal range, then, it is nothing worrisome.

All the changes might be related to your state of having pain and nauseated that might have prohibited the normal intake of nutrients during this time.

As the previous urine analysis was indicating possible infection, to my opinion, your symptoms are related to possible UTI. Can ask for an abdominal ultrasound/ct-scan together with urine culture and sensitivity testing for further evaluation.

Hope it was of help! Let me know if I can be of further help!
