Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I have had tiny white spots on my penis shaft and head as far as I could remember. Even before becoming sexually active. They do not cause any discomfort but it makes my penis extremely unattractive. They look shiny when light shines on them correctly. I have not tried to treat it but I would like to know what they are and remove them. please help me out. thank you.

Brief Answer:
Lichen nitidus; topical steroids or topical tacrolimus

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through the details of your query and I have reviewed the Image.

You seem to have Lichen Nitidus.
The lesions in lichen nitidus are flat topped, pin head sized, shiny and hypopigmented. The lesions may be discrete or coalesce together. They are otherwise harmless.
Lichen nitidus lesions are commonly distributed on abdomen, arms and glans penis. Etiology is unknown but they are more common in those who are atopic.
The lesions may resolve by themselves or may persist for long.
Treatment is commonly with moderately potent topical steroids e.g fluticasone propionate 0.05% cream Or mometasone furoate 0.1% cream can be used.
Topical tacrolimus 0.03% Or 0.1% ointment has also been used to treat lichen nitidus.
