Posted on Fri, 19 Jun 2015
Question: I have A friend who has a reoccurring bruise over his heart it happens most predominately at the end of the evening and by morning the bruise disappears it's blue in color and it's intermittent.
There is no pain associated with this bruise. Just concerned if something could be going wrong with his circulatory system?
I've advised him to go get a complete physical and specifically ask for an EKG, what else do you think they should check for ?

Brief Answer:
Following tests advised...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Bruising over the heart area with no pain might be related to problems :
- of blood coagulation
- of local blood vessels

It is true that further examinations will help determine the right cause:
- EKG
- physical examination
- complete blood count to exclude anemia
- blood coagulation testing (INR, prothrombin time, thrombocytes level, hemorrhage/coagulation time)
- echocardiogram and doppler of blood vessels of neck

If everything is ok, and if the stature of your friend is thin, it might be a variation of blood vessels of the trunk. However, get the tests done first before running into final conclusions.

Hope it was of help!
