What Do Presence Of Trace Leukocytes In A Urine Strip Test Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Sep 2015
Question: i have trace leukocytes but no nitrates or any other elevated level on a urine strip. It is very faint between white and pink. Would you recommend me go and get evaluated for UTI as a man? I can't think of what else it could be? I did have sex a while back and about 2 months ago had some frequent urgency to pee right after i already did - to relieve the urgency or pain. it was new and strange - since then (2 months) it has subsided - but i have this very faint (120 seconds) of leukocyte on the urine strip, that I am wondering about? If I take the urine test 3 x a day - morning, afternoon, evening. I only see faint pink on maybe 1 of the tests

Brief Answer:
Yes, please have urine analysis done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Dipstick urine test is not a very good test. Its result are very often wrong.
As you have had some urinating problems, it would be good to know what exactly is/was going on. That is why, urine analysis in lab is a very good idea and should be done for sure.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Ok thanks. When I did have the urgency to pee it was two things. One, I drank a ton of water before sex and didn't pee until after. Then it was like my urethra felt irritated and I had to pee again and again for like 10-15 minutes. Very little urine. Just relief. After an hour or so it was fine and doesn't really come back. This has happened once before after a full bladder and then ejaculation then the issues. It feels like minor inflammation sometimes. Do you see this issue with men? UTI seems unusual in my mind but maybe not? Can leukocyte test be positive of inflamed urethra?

Brief Answer:
UTI can affect males as well.

Detailed Answer:
UTI is not only women condition. Although male urethra is much longer, still uti can happen and is nothing unusual.
Described by you symptoms are very characteristic for urethra infection. No doubt in that. Leukocytes can appear due to urethra inflammation. And you never know if the inflammation is in urethra or maybe in bladder as well. Leaving the infection not treated, can cause kidneys problem. So it seems reasonable to have urine analysis done.
