Posted on Thu, 10 Mar 2016
Question: Hello Doc,
Please note that my son aged 8 yrs (Born XXXXXXX 2008) has been ill for a week now. He has started with mild fever and then multiple vomit for three four days. Now after 6 days (i.e. today 25 Jan)it has subsidized and no more vomit. However the doctor we are visiting has asked to go through more tests.
I am looking forward for your overall advice on what does the reports mean. Kindly interpret them and advice if he have Jaundice and anything wrong with his liver as such.
Also is the current medication enough or should there be any other addition.
Your instant inputs will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Your child is suffering from viral hepatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

I have gone through the detail history and all the reports. The clinical examination in the prescription shows that the child has jaundice with enlarged liver. On the basis of clinical finding and history of frequent vomiting your physician has advised you the tests. The test reports are suggestive of viral hepatitis A(IgM HAV) with raised liver enzymes(SGOT/SGPT) and serum bilirubin. The prothrombin time is normal which indicates good prognosis.
The most common cause of Viral hepatitis A is consumption of contaminated food or water. The management is conservative.
I would suggest you to give multivitamin supplements with high carbohydrate(glucose water)low protein and low fat diet.Continue giving Liv 52,antibiotic and domstal(antiemetic).
Consult your pediatrician if there is frequent vomiting, bleeding from any site, black colored stool, excessive lethargy or irritability.
I hope your child would recover with all these measures in next few days.

I shall be glad to answer if you have any more query.
Regards
