What Do Metallic Taste In Mouth And Tingling Lips After A Nail Procedure Suggest?

Question: I had my nails done using a dip powder process. www.XXXX.com. I go to a mineral spa in Steamboat XXXXXXX co. the Old Town Hot XXXXXXX I believe this made my nails more porous and the chemicals seeped into my blood stream over one months time. Ihave experienced a metallic taste in my mouth and tingling lips. First consulted my oral surgeon thinking a replacement tooth post or bridge had gone bad, he prescribed a steroid pack. At first this seemed to help, but did not ease the symptoms permanently. Consulted him again, he said he would feel more comfortable if I sought out a medical Dr. I did and was prescribed prednisone 20 mg, two a day for five days then one a day for five days. This helped, my taste buds grew back. after completing the course, the metallic taste in my mouth and the tingling in my lips came back, but less intense. I have an appointment tomorrow with my Dr. is there a blood test to detect if any of the chemicals are in my blood stream? I found a web site, www.XXXX.com/notes/nail-envy/the-real-trtuth-about-sns-nails/0000 which gives a list of the chemicals used in the SNS nail product.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM,
Thank you for posting this question. It has been an eye opener for me too.
Toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate are the toxic trio.
Others are Acetone, Aceto nitrile, Buyul acetate, Ethyl methacrylate and many more.
Certainly they can cause tingling in lips. Regarding metallic taste, I wonder whether lead (as a base) or mercury (for shine) were also used. These are banned but you never know. Once absorbed they do not leave the body and can cause nerve, kidney and liver damage.
Other possible effects of nail chemicals- headaches; dizziness; and irritated eyes, nose throat and skin, nausea, breathing problems, vomiting, headache, exhaustion, liver damage, even cancer.
Blood tests for Lead and mercury are available.
Blood tests for Toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate are also available.
You can discuss all this with your doctor.
Thanks again for the question. You can revert back.
