Question: I am female 56 yo 240 lbs. fell down icy stairs (4) on this past tuesday. xrays an hour later revealed no fractures. Today there is very large bruise showing and still lots of pain cannot sit and iceing hurts. I am having spasms up me right side as well that are very painful. Prescribed Norco and XXXXXXX THis is not any relief. Only relief is I am so exhausted from the spasms and pain that I keep falling asleep for a few hours at a time. Could there be a fracture that did not show up in xrays

Brief Answer:
Fracture is less likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A large bruise and painful spasms in the area are suggestive of a soft tissue injury. A fracture is less likely as all your X-rays are normal. However MRI scan is a more sensitive test to detect such soft tissue injuries and minor fractures. Taking muscle relaxants with pain killers and rest will help in early recovery. You can do a hot compress instead of icing the area for relief from spasms. The bruise will gradually heal on its own in 2 weeks.
I hope this answers your query.
