What Causes Weakness In Legs While Suffering From Thyroid Disorder?

Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: I take a high blood pressure pill, metformin, Effexor, generic Lipitor ,advair, and synthoid.
I'm so tired halfway through the day, and when I get up, it feels like my legs can barely support me. I have very little energy. Could some of these medications or combination of be causing this. I use to be a almost hyper person. I am 66. My husband thinks I'm on too many prescriptions.

Brief Answer:
I think that the medical conditions are poorly controlled. No effect of meds

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

You are likely to be taking Synthroid due to hypothyroidism. It is possible that the hypothyroidism is inadequately controlled, giving rise to the lack of energy. Moreover, you probably have diabetes for which you are taking metformin. Diabetes messes up the glucose utilization and could also be related to your lack of energy. It is unlikely that it is due to the medicines. Rather it could be due to the medical conditions being poorly controlled. I would insist you to visit a doctor and get yourself thoroughly checked and investigated without delay.

Based on the conditions that you have, you need to take a number of medicines continually and there is no reason to think that these medicines are doing harm. Rather, it is possible that your additional concern about the possibility of harm from the medicines is playing a negative role, and not the medicines themselves.

Hope that helps.

Brief Answer:
You need to get certain tests done first.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking back.

I understand that your blood sugar was normal a year back. But you probably did not have the symptoms as well during that point of time. I would insist on trying to get the yearly checkup earlier if possible. If not, I would insist you to get the thyroid profile, the blood sugar levels (both fasting and post prandial) as well as blood HbA1c levels checked first. Your can post the reports to me and I would try to help you out.
