What Causes Weakness And Numbness In Legs Along With Dizziness?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: I have experienced vague intermittent neuro symptoms for 2 years. R sided weakness and numbness. Left leg weakness, balance and dizziness issues. Intermittent fatigue and significant neck, back and leg muscle stiffness. Seem to have periods of exacerbation with the only residual being muscle stiffness/rigity. I am a 41 yo female. 5'4" 137lbs. The muscle stiffness is worsening and significantly impacting ADl's. MRI in XXXXXXX 2013 revealed Disc bulge osteophyte complex at C5-6, C6-7 and canal narrowing at C5-6 and C6-7. Sever left foraminal stenosis at C5-6 and C6-7. Brain demonstrated a solitary lesion with increased FLAIR and T2 intensity in subcortical white matter in R frontal lobe. I don't meet the criteria for MS, but it is a concern for me. I am wondering if my symptoms lean more to ortho etiology or neuro (demyleninating disease).

Brief Answer:
Possibility of mix picture of ortho and neuro

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case and reports
There is possibility of mix picture of ortho and neuro involvement.
But pain and weakness can be more due to disc compression [ortho involvement].
Due to compression of this nerve root there is tingling/weakness.

For these symptoms analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.

This can be due to systemic disease which involves further investigation like EMG-NCV and EEG.
If required your doctor may advise to do MRI brain with contrast again and Evoked Potential Tests for Multiple Sclerosis
This painless test measures electrical activity in the brain to help diagnose MS.
