What Causes Vomiting Up Of Food?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Sep 2014
Question: I took to the ER on Sunday because she was constantly vomiting and unable to keep foods down. The ER said she had a bad virus and discharged her with Zofran and Tylenol for pain. She is still unable to keep any foods down. She ate yesterday a small portion of vegetables and did not have problems but today she is unable to keep anything down. Is she throwing up bile?

She has been ill since Tuesday, August 19th. I picked her up from the airport, she flew in from XXXXXXX she started getting ill on the plane and has been ill since. No more stomach pains, no fever, not jaundice and no pain killers except what physician at ER prescribed. They did an ultra sound to check for gallbladder matters and ct scan to look at her appendice. They gave her 2 bags of IV also an morphine in her IV as well.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
It has been 10 days she is sick and vomiting constantly.
If they did Ultrasound and CT that was normal, I feel she should get an endoscopy done.
Moreover she should be given IV fluids and IV Pantoprazole. She requires admission and investigations.
This is required because if she keeps vomiting she would get severely dehydrated which may affect her Kidney too.
Get her admitted and also keep a watch on her Urine output.
If you have any further query please ask me.

What else can she try to eat to coat her stomach, I just purchased some pedia light. If this does not work I will take back to the ER.

Brief Answer:
Detail follows.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Ideally she should be kept nil orally.
However, a combination of Sucralfate and Oxetaine helps.
In case she wants to eat, just give her Semi - solid diet only.
If you have any further query please ask me.
