What Causes Vertigo And High BP?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: I went to see a doctor for what I felt like was vertigo (BPPV) and Ive had the symptoms for three weeks. My bp reading was taking several times and was 165/100. Dr. increased my bp meds to 20 ml from 20 ml. I am to return in two weeks. No acknowledgement that I did have vertigo, so I am confused as to is high bp causing the vertigo like symptoms or vice versa. Last night went to bed, very chilled, and when I laid down the room was spinning very fast and had to close my eyes. That was the second day of taking the increased dosage of lisinopril. No fluid in ears, or hearing and vision issues. Thoughts? I do not know what to make of it.

Brief Answer:
Dizziness could be related to increased BP

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

I do understand your concern; I'll try my best to help you with this problem.

BPPV typically presents with dizziness of short duration and noticed particularly on changing the positions such as rolling over or getting up from the bed, turning the head, etc. On repeated movements the dizziness disappears completely, this is known as 'fatigability' and is typical of BPPV. If your symptoms are in similar line, then it is BPPV.

But, according to the history described by you, I am of the opinion that your problem could be related to elevated blood pressure which requires a thorough evaluation.

As your BP and dizziness doesn't seem to reduce even with increased dose of Lisinopril, I would recommend you to get a CT Scan of the brain done to be on a safer side and to rule out any intracranial lesions.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.
