Brief Answer:
if you have no need you can discontinue vertin

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.

I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
Vertin contains betahistine which is generally advised for vertigo and giddiness. Probably you had some such symptoms hence you were prescribed vertin. But vertigo like feeling is not a side effect of it. So dont worry about its side effect. However if you are having no symptoms in normal state and having symptoms after taking vertin only, you can discontinue it and wait and watch for a week.
If symptoms reappear, then only you can restart it or consult your treating doctor.

Hope this was useful.
Regards.

Sir
At present I am not confident of stopping Vertin. However today morning I tapered it from vertin 24 to Vertin 16 and am feeling a bit better. Should I continue twice a day. And later can I start vertin 8. Pl advise me.
Further, following is my brief health history:
-     I am taking med for BP for last few years. Presently I am taking one tablet each of Met XL 50 and Stamlo D in the morning.
-     I was also prescribed to take Nervup OD for a month by my family physician but I stopped taking it for the fear of this interfering with vertin.
-     Else than this I suffered from kidney stone and piles, very long time back and have mild Spondylitis also.
As per above kindly advise for further continuation of medicines and their doses. At present I am not in a position to go to my consulting Doctor or talk to him.

With thanks and regards

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, you can take vertin twice a day and slowly taper off if no problem occurs.
Rest of the medicines are being rightly taken by you.
Now you have said that you have spondylosis. So do cervical range of motion exercises. Take mild painkillers like aceclofenac or ibuprofen if required.
Also, get your blood pressure checked periodically to rule out vertigo due to altered blood pressure.

All the best.
Regards.

Dear Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta
I am very grateful to you for your very useful and timely medical advice and counseling. Now I am recovering slowly.
I am now (since yesterday) taking vertin 8 morning and evening as even Vertin 16 was causing lot of flushing and discomfort. I will start Nervup OD after I am completely stable. For my spondylosis I am doing the exercises regularly for many years. During present position however I am doing it in moderation only.
If you may wish to guide me further I shall be very grateful.
With regards and thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Its nice to hear that you are recoveing.
For your spondylosis, your main focus should be on exercise and hot compression over the affected area. Since you have it for years, the aim should be to arrest its progression. So a yearly xray monitoring should also be a part of treatment. According to the reports, treatment effectiveness can be decided and further management can be applied.

Hope this was useful.
Regards.
