What Causes Vaginal Spotting Initially After Mirena Insertion?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jul 2015
Question: Would you know if an IUD insertion has been correctly or incorrectly inserted? I had a very reputable individual insert my mirena and do a D&C about a month ago. Waiting for a follow up, but I've had no symptoms other than minor spotting. Should I assume it is working properly and not worry about extra birth control methods (yes I know it doesn't protect against stds) but that's not an issue. My follow up is not for another 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Common with Mirena

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
No dear there is nothing to worry about as it is common to have spotting for 1-2 months initially after insertion.
But it starts giving contraceptive benefits after one week of insertion and thus as far as contraception is concerned you ate safe.
This spotting will be relieved in a month or so and no active treatment is needed for it.
You can meet your gynaecologist as scheduled.
All the best.
