default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: Yes, I am approximately 6 weeks pregnant and am experiencing spotting. I read that dark brown blood is normal early on and it is just spotting., however when I use the toilet I notice that the spotting seems to look like sand granules. It doesn't dissolve in the water... has anyone heard of this? I am 40 and this is my second pregnancy in 8 months. My last pregnancy I miscarried
I had spotting al during previous pregnancy and it terminated at 10 weeks.

Brief Answer:
POSSIBLE MISCARRIAGE SHOULD BE RULED OUT.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Mild spotting is quite common in early weeks of pregnancy. However, we need to rule out possible miscarriage or molar pregnancy in this context.

In this circumstance, I suggest you to undergo one blood test for beta-hCG and Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scan to reveal fetal well being. After that, you must consult with your Gynecologist for next level management.

Until then, FOLIC acid and micronised progesterone supplement should be taken. Complete bed rest is advisable. Maintain genital hygiene and avoid heavy work.

Hope, I have answered your query. If you don't have any other query, you can close the discussion.

Wish your good health and take care yourself.

Regards,
Dr Soumen
