What Causes Unusual Excessive Sweating?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: I have daily sweating every day at the same time. It is not blood sugar levels. I am 84 years of age.

Not a question.. just info.... about a year ago I wore a heart monitor because I was 'passing out" for an hour or so in the late afternoon. There was one recorded incident which caused my heart to beat very slowly and so the doctor stopped my beta blocker which I had been taking for about 5 years. Those incidents stopped happening with the stoppage of the beta blocker. I am wondering if my heart is causing this. A stress test about 2 years ago said I was fine!
Gues there is a question here.... caused by heart??

Brief Answer:
Methodical diagnosis & specific treatment will help.

Detailed Answer:
HI XXXX,
Thanks for the query under health care magic platform.
I have read your query carefully & will try to locate few causes applicable to your health..
* Excessive sweating can be due to -
-Simple causes like.. Excessive physical stress/ eating spicy food/ consumption of alcohol. Psychological causes including psychological stress/ trauma/ fear / nervousness may result in excessive sweating. Also alcohol intake/ spicy food can be managed well on personal level/ help of a psychiatrist.
- some health disorders like Thyroid problems/ diabetes/ over weight / infection can cause sweating.
- You had sweating as a side effect of beta blockers in past when heart beats were slowed down ( which might have been given to control heart rate irregularities in past )/ you are also on Ramapril for blood pressure.
In such a condition it's worth going through all cardiac investigations to rule out & confirm heart problem causing you the symptom.
- Get your thyroid function tests done to confirm/ exclude hyperthyroidism as a cause of your problem. Though you think the cause not to be sugar level-It' s also advisable to check your diabetic profile including lipid profile.
- Infection usually is associated with high grade fever followed by sweating But,Chronic infection like tuberculosis .. gives rise to evening rise low grade fever with night sweating. You doctor may advise for investigations to rule out such infection.
In such a way, methodical examination & investigations would help in excluding non probable causes & pin point exact cause . This will allow specific treatment & relief from your problem of excessive sweating.
* In this context I would advise you -to consult your physician , he will examine you physically & get you investigated to advise for management OR may refer you to a Cardiologist/ endocrinologist/ psychiatrist for expert consultation & specific medications as per need.
I hope the answer is helpful to you. Any follow up query is welcome.
