What Causes Tortuous Colon?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: My wife has a tortuous colon. This was discovered 4 years ago during a colonoscopy. The colonoscopy was incomplete and she had a Barium enema with air. At that time, no obstructions, no diverticula and no polyps were seen. She now has severe constipation and plans to see the doctor. What could be causing the constipation and what can she do to get relief? I always worry that a tumor could be involved but the Barium exam showed no sign of cancer, albeit 4 years ago.

Brief Answer:
Tortuous colon a cause to your constipation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Constipation you are having is due to tortuous colon.
If you are having blood in feces recently, I advise to run fecal occult blood test and repeat colonoscopy at this moment.

To ease constipation, I advise to :
- use fiber rich foods
- take psyllium and lactulose to ease bowel movements
- increase water intake
- be more physically active

Hope it was of help!
