Question: Hi, I was diagnosed with asthma when i was younger but as i got older it only flared up when i smoked. Since quitting i have been fine except when I drink vodka it seems, its weird but I want to know if having a few drinks of vodka and tonic is affecting my asthma? I have been fine with most spirits and wines but have noticed a tight chest when I drink vodka...

Brief Answer:
Better to avoid alcoholic drinks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Asthma is aggravated by GERD ( gastroesophageal reflux disease ).
And alcoholic beverages are the common cause for worsening of GERD.
They actually cause laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. And this cause more reflux. So more chances of micro aspirations and irritation in lung.
These cause tightness in chest.
So better to avoid both smoking and alcoholic beverages.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
