Question: Woke up at 4 a.m. needing to urinate & could not go. Stayed up & am having urgency in urinating, yet feels like something blocking flow, which does not allow for emptying of bladder. I am 70 male with BPH & took 1 Rapiflo ( left over from prostate biopsy done 3-15, all 14 samples came back cancer free) at 9 a.m. Do have pain in pubic area

Thanks for query .
Based on the facts that you are known to have BPH and have difficulty in passing urine since 4 A.M and have frequent urge to pass urine .

This strongly suggest that you have Acute Retention of Urine due to Enlarged Prostate.

You need to go to ER immediately and get bladder emptied by self retaining indwelling catheter which would remain in urethra for next few days till all the relevant investigations are carried out and decision regarding need for endoscopic surgery to remove prostate (TURP) is decided upon .
