What Causes Swollen Penile Veins After Vigorous Masturbation?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Nov 2015
Question: Hi, I have some veins on the underside my penis which are a little bit painful and enlarged after quite a vigorous masturbation last week. Will the pain and vein enlargement reduce? I think the veins were always there but now they seem to be bigger and almost overlapping. Should I be worried?

Brief Answer:
May be phlebothrombosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Vigorous masturbation could have caused the abrasion inside the veins causing a condition called phlebothrombosis. In this the veins get enlarged due to inflammation and there may be a resultant thrombosis.
This is a condition which is self-limiting, means body will heal it on its own.
You may take antiinflamm medicines like Ibuprofen.
You are already not doing any sexual activity.
On a safer side you may please get a clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like color Doppler done by an Urologist or a General Surgeon

I hope this answer helps you. Please feel free to ask further if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Thank you very much for your answer. It has really helped although I am still a little concerned. There seem to be two veins running parallel either side of the fold of the foreskin. There is slight pain if I roll it backwards or forwards even a small amount as they seem to rub a bit. I don't know if this is related but there is also a slight blue tinge to the underside of the glans. Is this a sign that the blood supply is limited? I am continuing to refrain from sexual activity and am taking ibuprofen. Is there anything I else I can do? Thank you again

Brief Answer:
Treatment remains the same.

Detailed Answer:
Thank for your feedback. The veins you have mentioned are affected by the same thing which we discussed above.
The slight blue tinge on the underside of the glans can be due to the similar phenomenon and does not indicate less blood supply as such if there are no other symptoms like appearing black, increased or reduced sensation.
